California Sound Studios, Inc. is Proud to offer our 4 Week Recording and Engineering Workshop designed to help you understand the process of recording in a major production studio. The workshop is very hands on and will give you the experience you need to make a top quality album. This course is designed to create a solid foundation for audio engineers and producers. The following curriculum is the sequence of learning that we use for our 4 week (6 hours per week) Recording & Engineering Workshops. It is based on the training programs of the best recording engineers in today’s music scene. These classes are structured to give the students a broad background in all the important areas of audio engineering. Our goal is for each student to be able to get in front of any Audio Workstation and start efficiently and confidently recording right away.

Week 1:

Understanding the principles of sound and how it is captured and stored is the focus of our first lesson. We will simplify the mysteries of the tools used in audio engineering and dive in to the recording process on the very first day.

Week 2:

The wonderful world of plug-ins is explored and explained in this lesson. We begin to examine frequencies and how to hear minute differences in sound while understanding effective procedures in assigning plug-ins and for what purposes. We also learn principles of different forms of media and how to utilize the internet for long-distance projects.

    • Pitch Correction
    • Bussing and Aux Tracks
    • Balancing Frequency Pockets

    • Emailing Sound Files

Week 3:

Utilizing Apple’s Logic application we will explore MIDI and learn how to use a sequencer efficiently. We will also train our ears yet further in hearing differences in sound quality as we transfer audio in different formats.

    • Using SMPTE Time-code
    • Utilizing Samples in MIDI
    • Sequencing Procedure
    • Processor and Buffer Efficiency

Week 4:

Creating a final product takes time and skill, so the final day will focus on recording a real session. We will learn how to prepare, record, mix, edit and master a final product in one full session.

    • Setting Up Vocal Booth
    • Proper Microphone Placement
    • Testing Signals/Setting Levels
    • Group Recording
    • Editing Procedures
    • Exploring Plug-ins
    • Automation
    • Mastering

TERMS & POLICIES:

There are no refunds. All sales are final on all services offered. To book studio time there is a ONE (1) hour minimum for all recording sessions. An advance deposit of 50% is required to confirm any scheduled time. You will forfeit your deposit if you reschedule less than 24 hours prior to your scheduled session or instrument/ vocal lessons. Entire balance is due upon the start of any recording session, lessons, classes, training programs or any other services provided. Form of payments accepted; Cash, Check, ATM, Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express. All recordings remain the property of California Sound Studios Inc. until balances are paid in full.
